We also provide a walk through tutorial via your mobile device; we encourage all customers to upload before & after projects of their projects using Faux Film for a chance to have your photos featured!

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

We know you are excited about receiving your NEW Granite or Stainless-Steel PVC/PET Film, BUT please allow the product to acclimate to its new home for 24 hours before installing the product.  This will allow the film to adjust to your home’s temperature and level of moisture in the air as every home's environment is unique.

TOOLS NEEDED

Special tools are not necessary, nor are special skills required.  Anyone can install this product!  Your Ez Faux Décor order comes with a squeegee to help you smoothly install your new Granite or Stainless-Steel PVC/PET Film, but to ensure the best results please also gather the following tools:

  1. Pencil 
  2. Tape Measure or Ruler
  3. Sharp Cutting Tool: A Steak Knife, Box Cutter, or Sharp Scissors 
  4. Blow Dryer or Heat Gun
  5. Ammonia Free Window Cleaner OR a Spray Bottle of Water with a Little Vinegar Added

Surface Preparation

If there is one area to place your focus prior to installation, it is surface preparation!  Most failed installations happen because of poor surface preparation.  Please take the time necessary to completely smooth and clean the mating surface. Rough surfaces should be sanded smooth and cleaned of dust. For optimal results, the entire mating surface should be cleaned twice. The first clean should be done with any ammonia free window cleaner. Cleaners with ammonia in them will result in a reaction with our adhesives and may cause the product to bubble.  Windex, Cinch, Glitz and many store brands make ammonia free window cleaners.  After cleaning the surface of dirt and oils, a second clean should be completed using a simple vinegar and water solution to further remove any of the residual chemicals found in the cleaner you just.  We know this two-step cleaning process may sound crazy, but any chemicals left on the mating surface by the ammonia free cleaner can chemically react with our adhesive on the film creating pockets of gas bubbles and resulting in an uneven surface once applied.  
 

Two-Step Cleaning Process 

  1. We recommend first cleaning the surface you wish to apply the product to with any ammonia free window cleaner to remove any surface grime and oils which find its way onto the surface.  But what if you do not have any?  A bottle of water and a little vinegar will do just fine; however, in this case make sure to thoroughly scrub the surface.

  2. After cleaning the surface of dirt and oils with an ammonia free cleaner, a second clean should be completed using a vinegar and water solution to further remove any of the residual chemicals found in the cleaner you just used to clean it.   

  3. Once both cleans are completed, please allow the freshly cleaned surface to completely dry prior to installation.  Once dry, you are ready to apply your new Ez Faux Décor film to your surface! 

Installation Process

EZ Faux Decor’s film is a heavier gauge product than most other brands, we recommend that you invite a friend to assist.
    
  1. Measure and cut a piece of the PVC Film for your longest or largest surface that is to be covered.
  2. Start at one end, and spray part of the surface with a fine mist of normal tap water.  Peel back the backing paper and begin laying the PVC Film on the surface about 4 inches at a time. 
  3. We have included a squeegee.  Use the squeegee to smooth out the water layer between the film and surface as well as any potential excess air and wrinkles. In most cases, squeegee the vinyl PVC Film at a 45-degree angle with overlapping, firm strokes will rid the vinyl of surface imperfections.
  4. Spray another 4 inches and repeat step 3.  This is where the extra set of hands come in. The water you are spraying allows the product to be repositioned, move it as needed by gently gliding the film a little here and there until into an ideal position. The adhesive we use allows movement and adjustments for 24 hours. If you need to step away, you can and don’t be afraid to spray and squeegee.
  5. Once you have completely covered the desired surface completely and the PVC film is in place, use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the edges of the film allowing you to apply the film around rounded edges and surface corners.
